Site Licensed Software Program
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) offers public domain, volume purchase, and site-licensed software programs to members of The Ohio State University community (a complete listing can be accessed from the site license Software Directory main page). This document outlines general procedures for various forms of distribution, along with other general procedures of the Site License Program. Note that the software that OIT acquires on a site license must be distributed through OIT procedures. Individuals may not distribute copies of site-licensed software they receive.
Some programs are available on a CD or DVD media exchange or loan out basis at the IT Service Desk, 025 Central Classrooms, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The method of distribution and its availability is noted with each piece of software listed. If the software is available on a CD or DVD-exchange basis, the required number and type of CDs/DVDs is specified at the end of the software description. Each CD or DVD must be new and unformatted.
Some software is available electronically. To access the electronic software distribution server, open the Software Downloads web page (also available from the OIT home page by selecting "Software" and then "Software Downloads").
Finally, some software is available through a bulk purchase plan or an educational discount at a greatly reduced price. This type of software is sold only to faculty and staff (departments) on internal OSU funds. This is currently done using a 100-W form. The sales are done at the IT Service Desk, 025 Central Classrooms.
Note that all of the software offered through this program is reviewed annually for volume of distribution and cost of license. The renewal of the license for each software package is dependent upon the funding OIT has available and the usage patterns.
OIT's goal for these web pages is to offer a clear synopsis for each software package and the terms for its availability; however, additional information about any of this software may be obtained by contacting the IT Service Desk in Central Classrooms at 688-HELP.
NOTE: There is a Listserve email distribution list called SLICNEWS. This Listserve list is for announcements of all new OIT Site Licensed and volume purchase product releases and new products and for inquiries. You can also view recent product announcements from the site license Software Directory main page. Both services provide you with information; however, the SLICNEWS Listserve provides you with notices in your email with no further action on your part.
