The Office of Information Technology (OIT) offers the following Macintosh site-licensed and public domain software programs to members of The Ohio State University community. Please refer to Site Licensed Software Program for more information about how to obtain the software or to the Site Licensed Software Policy for general policy guidelines and an explanation of certain restrictions that may apply to usage on regional campuses.
NOTICE: OIT Customer Services can only accept 100-W's for departmental sales (faculty and staff only).
NOTE: There is a Listserve email distribution list called SLICNEWS. This Listserve list is for announcements of all new OIT Site Licensed and volume purchase product releases and new products and for inquiries. Adobe Reader (current version):

Adobe Reader allows you to view and print Portable Document Format (PDF) files with the original graphics and layout intact. It is available to faculty, staff and students for use on campus and on home computers. This version now also includes Document Rights which provides features when you open a PDF document with additional usage rights. These features include Save Document, Advanced Form features, Comments, and Digital Signatures. This is available electronically. To receive a download click Software Downloads.
Adobe Contract License Program:
Ohio State University has entered into a Contract License Program (CLP) with Adobe. This contract provides for discounts up to 65% off of educational boxed product. An ordering procedure is available on Software Downloads. Look under any platform for "How to Order Adobe Products".
Aegis Client (version 1.2.1):
System Requirements:
- Powermac G3 or later.
- MacOS X 10.2 or later.
- 64 MB RAM, 8 MB hard disk space.
AEGIS Client is an implementation of the client side of the IEEE 802.1X - Port Based Network Access Control protocol. 802.1X access control provides improved security for both wired and wireless networks. This license is available through the OIT Telecommunications and Networking workgroup. Telecommunications and Networking, through OSUWeb.net wireless, is deploying wireless computer access on the OSU campus. For more information on this you can link to

Cisco VPN Client (version 4.9.01.0100):
System Requirements:
- PowerMac or Mac with Intel processor.
- Mac OS X 10.4.1 or later, including 10.5.
- 64 MB RAM, 50 MB free disk space.
OSUnet VPN service is designed as a solution for faculty, staff and students to be able to have remote usage to the OSUnet network that is authenticated and secure. This authentication is accomplished by a "client" VPN program which communicates with a server located at OSU. Available to faculty, staff and students at main and regional campuses and on your home computer. It is for university-related business only and must be left with your department and removed from your home computer when you leave OSU. This is distributed electronically only. Eudora (6.2.4): MacOS X:

- Macintosh PowerMac
- MacOS X version 10 or later.
- 64 MB RAM, 24 MB hard disk space.
This is the commercial version of Eudora, a popular client/server email package. The current version runs natively on MacOS X. It also supports anti-Spam. Version 6.2.4 (MacOS X only) features ScamWatch for detecting "phishing" schemes and fixes relating to use with IMAP servers. It is licensed for use on the main and regional campuses. It is available to faculty, staff, and students. Use this only on OSU-owned equipment or on your home computer. It is for university-related business only and must be left with your department when you leave OSU and/or removed from your home computer. This is distributed electronically only. Fetch (version 5.3):
System Requirements:
- Macintosh with PowerPC or Intel processor.
- MacOS X 10.3.9 to 10.5.
- 64 MB RAM, 55 MB hard disk space.
- Internet connection.
Fetch is a program that enables you to connect to a remote computer to send and retrieve files over the Internet using FTP (file transfer protocol) or Secure file transfer protocol (SFTP). This now includes improved capability with MacOS X 10.5, and allows you to upload files to servers using Copy and Paste commands. In addition, Fetch now is a Universal application and supports PPC and Intel Macs. Available to faculty, staff and students for use at main and regional campuses and on your home computer. Gaussian 03 Revision E.01
System Requirements:

Gaussian is a program for computational chemistry. It uses electronic structure modeling to investigate chemical phenomena. It is available to faculty, staff and for classroom use. Home use is not allowed. It is available only for main campus. The right-to-use license is no charge. Faculty and staff will sign an End User Agreement which also contains a Confidentiality Agreement, which OIT will forward to Gaussian, Inc. IT support staff are able to deploy copies to student labs but are not authorized to make distribution to any other faculty/staff. Each faculty/staff user must obtain their own copy from OIT after signing their own agreement. Students in labs are authorized to use the software only for projects and assignments for courses in which they are currently enrolled. Each student must sign a departmental computing policies form to use the software. The media may be loaned out of OIT Customer Services (512 Baker Systems) for 3 working days for installation. Software is distributed in OIT Customer Services. CDROM only.
GaussViewM (version 4.1):
System Requirements:
- Macintosh with G3, G4 or G5 PowerPC processor or Intel.
- MacOS X 10.3.9 or 10.4.9 and later.
- 300 MB free disk space, 256 MB of RAM.
GaussViewM is a program for computational chemistry. It provides a full-featured graphical user interface for Gaussian 03. It is not integrated with Gaussian, but rather is a front-end/back-end processor to aid in the use of Gaussian. It is available to faculty, staff and for classroom use. Home use is not allowed. It is available only for main campus. The right-to-use license is no charge. Faculty and staff will sign an End User Agreement which also contains a Confidentiality Agreement, which OIT will forward to Gaussian, Inc. JMP (version 7.0):
System Requirements:
- Any Mac computer running MacOS X 10.4.8 or later.
- MacOS X 10.4.8 or higher.
- 128 MB RAM, 110 MB hard disk space.
JMP is an interactive software tool designed for statistical visualization and exploratory data analysis. This is available to faculty, staff and students on main campus only. It can be used for classroom instruction, academic research and course work only. Home use is allowed for a holder of the license on campus. The right-to-use license is no charge. The media may be purchased at OIT Customer Services (512 Baker Systems) for $5 per CD via a 100-W by faculty and staff, or they may exchange one new CD-R with white, ink-jet printable label. Students may exchange one new CD-R for the software. Software is distributed in OIT Customer Services. CDROM only.

NOTE: There is an updater to version 7.0 which takes JMP to version 7.01. This contains many software fixes. It can be downloaded from OSU Software Downloads.
Mac OS X (Macintosh Operating System 10.5):
System Requirements:
- Power Macintosh G4 and G5, Intel.
- 512 MB of RAM, 9.0 GB of free hard disk space.
- DVD drive.
- Built-in FireWire.
Macintosh system software which is based on a Unix foundation. Features true memory protection, preemptive multi-tasking and symmetric multiprocessing when running on appropriately configured Power Mac. Includes Quartz 2D graphics, Open GL for 3D graphics and gaming and QuickTime for streaming audio and video.
New copies are available only for institutional purchase (faculty and staff only) and use in OSU computing labs. Home use is not permitted. Users may purchase new right-to-use licenses at OIT Customer Services (512 Baker Systems) for $44 only with a 100-W. This includes a license and DVD media. Users may also purchase new licenses without DVD media for $39.60 per license. Licenses do not include upgrades to major new versions (10.x); however, additional version 10.5.x updates are freely available through MacOS Autoupdate.
Software is distributed in OIT Customer Services. Departments may purchase multiple licenses per purchase transaction. DVD only.

MAPLE (version 11):
System Requirements:
- PPC: Macintosh with G4 processor or later.
- MacOS X 10.3.9 with JRE 1.4.1.
- 500 MB of RAM, 650 MB of free hard disk space.
- Graphics adapter capable of 1024 x 768 resolution or higher.
- Macintosh with Intel processor:
- MacOS X 10.4.4 or later with JRE 1.4.1/ JRE 1.4.2.
- 256 MB of RAM, 650 MB of free hard disk space.
- Graphics adapter capable of 1024 x 768 resolution or higher.
A powerful and comprehensive interactive symbolic algebra system used for engineering and mathematical instruction and research. Available to faculty and staff for use on computers on campus or in their homes for university-related business. Available to students who are employed as a teaching or research assistant/associate for use on computers on campus only for university-related business. Software must be returned when leaving OSU. This program comes in a desktop version and a server version. The server version may be used to run Maple in a LAN environment. Maple contains extensive Help after installation. Software is available on a CD-exchange basis from Customer Services, 512 Baker Systems. You must provide a blank CD-R with white ink-jet printable label. Alternatively, faculty and staff may purchase the CD for $5 with a 100-W.
- Faculty/staff users can view and print the Maple License Agreement, fill it out and bring it to OIT Customer Services to obtain the software.
NOTE: There is a special web site for Maple license holders on the OIT license. It is MaplePrimes and provides access to new and innovative technology from Waterloo Maple. You should contact Customer Services at 8-help to validate your status as a license holder to receive an Authorization Code and then connect to MaplePrimes to set up your own account.
Additionally, you can access the Maple Application Center. This site offers a free online resource of technical solutions submitted by Maple users from around the world. When you link to this site, you also have access to the Maple Student Center for course help, Maple Power Tools which are add-on packages and The Maple Reporter which is published semiannually and covers new developments at Waterloo Maple, Inc.
MATLAB (version 7.6):
System Requirements:
- Intel
- MacOS X at 10.4.8 or higher; 10.5.1 or higher.
- 512 MB of Ram, 510 MB of hard disk space for MATLAB only and the online Help files.
- Access to the C or Fortran compiler if building your own MEX files.
- Netscape Navigator 6.2 or above or Internet Explorer 5.1 or above or Safari.
- MacOS X X11 window system.
MATLAB is a part of Mathworks R2008a and is an interactive environment for numeric computation that specializes in working with matrices. It combines a powerful user interface with 2-D and 3-D graphics and a comprehensive library of mathematical analysis techniques. The Standard Configuration for faculty, staff and students also includes Simulink (differential equation models, simulation, linear and nonlinear models, continuous and discrete models), and Toolboxes (Bioinformatics, Control System, Curve Fitting, Distributed Computing, Image Processing, Instrument Control, Optimization, Partial Differential Equations, Signal Processing, Signal Processing Blockset, Simscape, SimMechanics, Statistics, Stateflow ). The Student Configuration is the same except that is does not contain Parallel Computing Toolbox. Available to faculty and academic staff for teaching and research on OSU owned or controlled computers and campus computer labs. It is also available to faculty, academic staff and students for use on personally owned computers. Student use is limited to use in meeting classroom requirements and courses of study offered by OSU. Commercial use is prohibited. Additional toolboxes may be ordered. Please contact Tim Mathieu of The Mathworks at 508-647-7016, (tim.mathieu@mathworks.com) to inquire about quotations and orders for additional toolboxes. In this case The Mathworks will generate any additional license codes for add-on toolboxes (Child Licenses) for you to combine during installation with your Standard Configuration license codes. Media is distributed in Customer Services in 512 Baker Systems. A media set is $5, paid for with a 100-W. Alternatively, faculty and staff may exchange 1 blank DVD-R with white ink-jet printable label. Students must exchange 1 blank DVD-R media with white printable label. The bookstore in Central Classrooms, 2009 Millikin Rd., stocks acceptable media for exchange.

The MATLAB TAH Install Guide provides details on how to install additional toolbox licenses NOT in the OSU Standard Configuration along with the TAH license for the Standard OSU license configuration. Mathematica Student Edition (version 5.2):

- Netscape Navigator 7.1 or Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher.
This is a technical computing system used by science, industry and academia. It combines high-precision numeric and symbolic computation with data visualization and programming capabilities. This license was obtained by the College of Math and Physical Sciences. This version available via electronic download through OIT is "Mathematica for Students" and is licensed to currently enrolled students only. It is for use only on student-owned computers for instruction and research activities. The software is licensed annually at no charge currently. The license runs from September to September of each year. It is available electronically only. MT-Newswatcher (verison 3.4):

- 4 MB RAM, 4 MB hard disk space.
- Ethernet or modem connection.
Newswatcher enables you to use your Macintosh computer to read and post news articles on network news groups. This is available to faculty, staff and students for main and regional campuses and your home computer. This version runs on MacOS X only and is available electronically only. Oracle Database Software:

The Office of Information Technology has purchased a campuswide site license
for the following Oracle software modules:

* Oracle Tuning Pack
This is available to faculty, staff and students on main and regional campuses for administrative, teaching, research, or community service functions. Commercial use is prohibited. It may not be used on your home computer or for personal use. It is not available for use in the OSU Medical Center for non-medical functions such as patient management and billing. It is available to you while you are affiliated with OSU and must be left with your department or OIT when you leave OSU. You will order software CDs directly from an Oracle MetaLink web site. For authorization to access this site to order CDs you will need OSU's Oracle Customer Support Identifier (CSI). A file containing this number and additional instructions, the Oracle CSI file, can be downloaded from OSU Software Downloads.
OzTeX (current version):
System Requirements:
- Macintosh PowerPC processor.
- MacOS 8.6 or higher with CarbonLib 1.3 or later; MacOS X.
- 16 MB of RAM; 15 - 100 MB of hard disk space depending on application.
OzTeX is a Macintosh implementation of Donald Knuth's TeX typesetting system. The license was obtained by the Department of Statistics, so the normal Shareware fee has been paid. You may obtain the software by linking to http://www.trevorrow.com/oztex/index.html . Details of changes for recent versions can be found also at the above web site. A users guide is provided with the software. Available to faculty, staff and students for use on computers on campus for university-related business.
Parallels Desktop for Mac (version 3.0)
System Requirements:
- Macintosh with Intel-based processor.
- MacOS X 10.4.6 or later.
- 512 MB of RAM, 15 GB of hard disk space.
Parallels Desktop for Mac is a virtualization solution for the Macintosh, enabling Mac users to run Windows (including Vista) simultaneously with their Mac OS X on any Intel-powered iMac, Mac mini, MacBook, MacBook Pro or Mac Pro Tower. This is available to faculty and staff and for student lab use on main and regional campuses for administrative, teaching, research functions. Commercial use is prohibited. Users may purchase new right-to-use licenses at OIT Customer Services (512 Baker Systems) for $25/copy with a 100-W. This fee entitles you to upgrades during the subscription year, which rolls over each year on March 30. The software is available via electronic download from a Parallels web site. When you purchase a license you will be given a tip sheet, with the download site, and a license key.

This is obtained directly from the company, RealNetworks, Inc. The Office of Information Technology does not have a license to distribute this within OSU. RefWorks (current release):
System Requirements:
- Internet Explorer 5.0 or later; Netscape 6.0 or later.
- Word 98 or later.
- Write-N-Cite requires: Word 98 or later and Mac OS X 10.3 or later.
RefWorks is a Web-based bibliography and database manager that allows users to create their own personal database by importing references from text files or online databases. They can use these references in writing their papers and automatically format the paper and the bibliography. RefWorks is a web-based application and hence is available to users on Windows, Macintosh and Unix, etc. No downloading or installation is needed since you use your web browser to access this application from a server. Write-n-Cite is a feature which allows you to access your references in RefWorks while working within Microsoft Word. RefWorks has been acquired through the efforts of The Ohio State University Libraries in conjunction with other OhioLink member schools. OIT site licensing provides some cost sharing in support of this campuswide license. This application is available to faculty, staff and students on the main and regional campuses. SciFinder Scholar (version 2007):
System Requirements:
- Macintosh with a PowerPC or Intel-based processor.
- MacOS X 10.3 and later.
- 128 MB RAM, 65 MB hard disk space.
- Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer version 5 or later, Mozilla Firefox or Safari.
SciFinder is a client/server application which accesses a server at Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) in Columbus, Ohio. The client permits easy, natural language searching of the "Chemical Abstracts" database by subject, author and chemical substance. Access to the "Chemical Abstracts" database is limited to 8 simultaneous users from 8 AM Sunday to 6 PM Saturday. To see the latest features, link to

and then click "SciFinder Scholar 2007".
A conflict currently exists between MacOS 10.5 and SciFinder. Scifinder has provided a temporary work-around for this issue.

SPSS (version 16.0.1) PowerMac/Intel:

- Macintosh with a PowerPC G4 667 MHz or later PowerPC processor or Mac Intel-based processors.
- MacOS X only. MacOS X 10.4 and above including 10.5, running Java Standard Edition 5.0 or later.
- 512 MB RAM.
- 800 MB hard disk space.
- Safari 1.3.1 or higher, Firefox 1.5 or higher, Netscape 7.2 or higher.
A comprehensive statistical analysis package. Available to faculty and staff for use on the main and regional campuses and at home for university-related business. Available to students for use on their personally-owned computer. SPSS for faculty/staff and for campus lab use now includes the Base product, Advanced Models, Regression Models, Tables, Trends and Categories modules. SPSS for student home/laptop use includes SPSS Base, Advanced Models, Regression Models and Tables. New faculty/staff users may purchase the software media at OIT Customer Services (512 Baker Systems) for $5 with a 100-W or by exchanging media as noted below. Students may obtain the media by exchanging a blank CD with white, ink-jet printable label. One source of acceptable media is the OSU Bookstore, 2009 Millikin Rd. (Central Classrooms). The software license code must be renewed on an annual basis. OIT Customer Services will provide the CD media and Authorization codes. Software must be returned to OIT or left with your department when you leave OSU.
New faculty/staff SPSS users can view and print the SPSS License Agreement, fill it out and bring it to OIT Customer Services to obtain the software. Existing faculty/staff SPSS license holders with OIT need not fill out a new agreement. Students can print the corresponding SPSS Student License Agreement and fill it out as above. Users may also walk in to OIT Customer Services and fill out an agreement there. Please bring a valid university ID.
STATA (version 10):
System Requirements:
- PowerMac or Intel-based processor.
- MacOS X 10.4 and later.
- 512 MB of RAM; 80 MB free hard disk space.
- Only 32-bit version offered on Grad Plan.
STATA is an environment for manipulating and analyzing data using statistical and graphical methods. It is an integrated package, not a collection of separate modules. This is available as part of the StataCorp Grad Plan, originally administered by the Statistics dept. OIT is now distributing this at their request. Available to faculty, staff, and students on main and regional campuses and on home computers. If you purchase with your own funds you own the software license. Licenses purchased with OSU funds remain with OSU. To purchase, call 800-782-8272 or go to the StataCorp site. Once you have ordered the software, your order should normally be available for pickup in OIT Customer Services in 512 Baker Systems the next business day. The software comes boxed from StataCorp. All materials you have ordered are in the distribution.

StuffIt Expander:
System Requirements:
- Macintosh with a 68030 or later processor.
- System 9.2.x for Classic version.
- Mac OS X 10.1 and later, for various versions of Stuffit Expander, depending on your OS version.
StuffIt Expander provides access to many file formats downloaded from the Internet, sent via email or delivered to you on hard copy media from Mac, PC or Unix machines. It is available to all faculty, staff and students. This is freeware. TN3270 X (version 3.2.4):
System Requirements:
- Macintosh with a PowerPC G3 or later processor and Intel based Macs, although it does not run natively on Intel-based Macs.
- MacOS X 10.2.8 or later.
TN3270 allows a Macintosh computer with a TCP/IP network connection to negotiate a telnet session emulating an IBM 3270 terminal. Features of this release include support for Kerberos 4 and Kerberos 5 authentication and encryption and support for negotiated SSL using the telnet Start TLS option. It is available to all faculty, staff and students. OIT has obtained permission from the author at Brown University to distribute this software to OSU. To receive a download click Software Downloads.
TurningPoint (version 1.0.0)
System Requirements:
- Macintosh with a PowerPC G3 or later processor and Intel-based Macs.
- MacOS X 10.3 or later.
- 256 MB RAM, 10 MB hard disk space; full installation (all options) of Office 2004 Mac.
- Standard USB 1.1/2.0 port.
TurningPoint is software that OSU instructors and staff can use to add interactive polling/quizzing slides to a PowerPoint presentation. They can make a request to have OIT Classroom Services install the software in a Classroom Pool room's lectern computer by sending an e-mail to clickers@osu.edu. Please specify that you want the antenna installed on the Mac computer if you are creating the slides with "TurningPoint for Mac". You can not do polling on the Windows version of TurningPoint with slides created with the Mac version and vice versa. This is available electronically only. Virex (version 6.2):
System Requirements:
- Macintosh with a 68030 or PowerPC 601 or later processor.
- MacOS 8.1 - 9.2.2.
- 8 MB of RAM, 15 MB of free hard disk space.
This is a desktop program for detecting and removing computer viruses. It allows you to scan your hard drives and diskettes to find viruses. It detects and removes viruses and where possible, repairs files that have been modified by a virus. It contains the following features: Protects against macro viruses; Automatically scans files downloaded from the Internet; Scans compressed files, including Zip archives; Easy-to-access Control Strip module, DropScan and Virex Contextual Menu Plug-in. Available to faculty, staff and students for main and regional campus use and home use. This is a right-to-use license and must be left with your department and removed from your home computer when you leave OSU. This is available electronically only. - MacOS X 10.2.6 and higher.

This is a desktop program for detecting and removing computer viruses. It allows you to scan your hard drives and diskettes to find viruses. It detects and removes viruses and where possible and repairs files that have been modified by a virus. It contains the following features: Protects against macro viruses; Automatically scans files downloaded from the Internet; Scans compressed files, including Zip archives. This version also includes eUpdate for automatic update of DAT files. Available to faculty, staff and students for main and regional campus use and home use. This is a right-to-use license and must be left with your department and removed from your home computer when you leave OSU. This is available electronically only. NOTE: Virex Version 7.7 has been superseded by VirusScan for Macintosh. Virex 7.7 is maintained at this time to support older versions of MacOS X, 10.2 and 10.3.
Virex Data Files
DAT files contain up-to-date virus signatures and other information that Network Associates anti-virus products use to protect your computer against the thousands of computer viruses in circulation. New .DAT files are released regularly to provide protection against the 100 to 300 new viruses that are discovered each month. These are available electronically only. - MacOS X 10.4.6 and higher, including 10.5.

New features for Mac users include Mac OS X Leopard support and upgrade
to scan engine 5200. Available to faculty, staff and students on campus
and home computers. You have the right to use the software while affiliated
with Ohio State University. The software must be left with your department
and/or removed from your home computer should you leave OSU as the licenses
are owned by OSU. Data signature files (DAT files) are also available at
the web site below. This product also features eUpdate for automatic update
