DESCRIPTION: This is a program for desktop and server for detecting and removing computer viruses. It allows you to scan your hard drives and diskettes to find viruses. It detects and removes viruses and where possible, repairs files that have been modified by a virus. This site license was obtained by the Office of Information Technology. New features include:

These are some of the major new features. There are more features which you can read about in the "patch2.htm" file. It is important that you read carefully about any of these features before you make any configuration changes to VirusScan on your desktop. Many of these features are technical in nature and require a good understanding of what they do before you change your configuration settings. Consultation with your departmental or college computing support professional staff is encouraged when making configuration changes.

The "readme" file included contains additional information about new features and resolved issues.

PLATFORM: PC with a processor running at 166 MHz or higher.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Workstation: Windows 2000 with or 4/XP (32 and 64 bit) with SP 1 or later and Vista (32 and 64 bit) and Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit), approximately 240 MB hard disk space for each platform, 128 MB of RAM; Server: Windows 2000 server, Advanced server or Datacenter server with SP 4, Windows server 2003 Standard, Enterprise or Web (32 or 64 bit) with SP1; Windows Server 2008; 128 MB RAM; 240 MB hard disk space.

ELIGIBILITY: Faculty, staff and students.

RESTRICTIONS: The software may be used on main and regional campuses and on your home computer for University business. You have the right to use the software while affiliated with The Ohio State University. The software must be left with your department and/or removed from your home computer should you leave OSU as the licenses are owned by OSU.

PURCHASE: These versions are distributed electronically. No purchase is required.

COST WITHOUT SITE LICENSE ARRANGEMENTS: The academic single copy price for VirusScan Pro 8.7 sp1 is about $49.95 and does not have server support.
