SOFTWARE: SPSS and Amos Version 16.0.1 for Windows XP/Vista
DESCRIPTION: This is a comprehensive package for analyzing data. 
SPSS Windows for faculty/staff and for lab use includes the Base 
product, Advanced Models, Regression Models, Tables, Trends, 
Categories, Conjoint, Exact Tests and Missing Values Analysis. 
SPSS for student home/laptop use includes SPSS Base, Advanced 
Models, Regression Models and Tables. This is available on a site 
license through the Office of Information Technology in 
collaboration with the Big Ten Universities (CIC) Licensing Task 
Force. 
In addition, through a cost share between Sociology, Political 
Science and OIT, Amos has also been site licensed for faculty, 
staff and student lab use at OSU. 
This version contains a number of improvements in the base including:
- Expanded Analytic Capabilities. Through the SPSS Programmability 
  Extension, an SPSS Integration Plug-in for R is available. 
  This enables users to access routines created in R. 
- Enhancements to Data Management. Change string length of the 
  data type of an existing variable, define missing values and 
  labels for data strings of any length, choose either to round 
  off or add decimal places to calculated dates when using the 
  Date/Time wizard, use the Data Editor to find and replace 
  information, spell check, find and replace text in syntax 
  using the Output Viewer enabling you to detect warnings to 
  identify problems in your output, set a permanent default 
  working directory and more. 
  
- Multithreaded algorithms. Linear regression, Correlation, 
  Partial correlation, Factor analysis. 
  
- Enhanced Generalized Linear Models and Generalized Estimating 
  Equations in Advanced Models.

PLATFORM: PC with an Intel or AMD x86 processor running at 1 GHz 
or higher. 
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows XP (32-bit)/Vista (32-bit and 64-
bit); a minimum of 512 MB RAM; 450 MB of free hard disk space for 
the Base system; graphics adapter with 800 x 600 resolution or 
higher. Viewing some of the Help files requires Internet Explorer 
6.0 or later. 
ELIGIBILITY: SPSS: faculty, staff or currently enrolled students; 
Amos: faculty, staff and student lab use. 
RESTRICTIONS: faculty/staff: You may use this software on computers 
on main and regional campuses and at home for university-related 
business only. The full faculty/staff module configuration above 
may be installed in student labs on campus. students: You may use 
copies of this software distributed directly to you on your 
personally-owned home or laptop computer only. It must be returned 
when you leave OSU and/or removed from your home computer. The 
license is owned by OSU. 
PURCHASE: Licenses are currently available at no charge. 
COST WITHOUT SITE LICENSE ARRANGEMENTS: The academic price for a 
single copy of SPSS Base, Advanced Models and Regression Models 
totals $1500. Tables and Trends are $499 and $399 each. 
DISTRIBUTION METHOD: SPSS is available electronically via OSU 
Software Downloads. To receive a download connect to the Software 
Downloads page at

You will download this software electronically, but all new 
faculty/staff users are required to fill out and sign the SPSS end 
user agreement and return it to OIT Customer Services, 512 Baker 
Systems, in order to receive an authorization code. New student 
users will fill out the SPSS Student License agreement. These 
agreements are online on Software Downloads under the SPSS 
description. 
Faculty and staff are allowed to use Amos, but students can only 
use this in a student lab. 
These programs are large. Download time using a modem could take up 
to 25 hours. If you are unable to download this software 
electronically, Customer Services will accept a CD exchange. You 
must provide a blank, CD-R with white ink-jet printable label. 
Alternatively, faculty and staff may purchase the CD for $5 with a 
100-W. The bookstore at Central Classrooms on Millikin Rd. stocks 
acceptable CDs.                          
NOTE: Existing SPSS Release 15 users who wish to continue running 
that version can obtain updated Release 15 codes from OIT Customer 
Services.
