Ohio State Continues McAfee Contract for Anti-Malware Solutions

OIT Site Licensing, in collaboration with the Site License Advisory Team, has awarded a continuation of our current contact with McAfee for anti-malware solutions, including anti-virus and anti-spyware protection for faculty, staff, and students.

OIT Site Licensing was privileged to work with many areas of campus, as well as the Inter-University Council, in testing and evaluating several products and the support associated with them, and testing indicated that in our current university environment, continuation of our current solution was the best option at this time.

This award also allows the University to leverage some discounts on additional McAfee software, and we have also made a recommendation that we continue to test software that we now have access to and which we may be able to use within this environment.

Faculty and staff will see no change in the general offerings available to them: the McAfee VirusScan and AntiSpyware software currently installed will not need to be updated or changed in any way. Students may see a change in the manner that software is distributed to them, but it is not expected to affect departments, and OIT will take responsibility for any migration that is needed.
